Sweet and zesty
Most Limoncello drinks are made from a base neutral spirit or a vodka. Our Lemoncello (spelt incorrectly to some – lets face it, we are Australian!) is made from a base gin. It’s the same base gin we use for our Strawberry and Mandalicious.
Another worthy note is that while most Limoncello is around the 24% ABV, our Lemoncello is at 30%ABV. It’s a preference thing – I prefer the taste at 30% . I think a Lemoncello at 24% gets very underwhelming when the ice starts to melt. Similarly, if you are mixing it with soda or similar, you don’t need as much volume - so the
bottle lasts longer
The summer of 2025 has very much been the summer of Lemoncello!
Lemoncello Spritz probably the most popular drink.
So what is my favourite way to drink Lemoncello – of course it will be poured straight over a big block of ice after I have had a delicious pasta dinner.
Ron on the other hand prefers the Lemoncello poured over rich vanilla icecream
As a G&T – why not
45ml Mallee Spirit Lemoncello
90ml Tonic
Pour in a glass with ice and garnish with a fresh lemon slice
So what is a Lemoncello Spritz?
45ml Mallee Spirit Lemoncello
90ml Prosecco (anything from King Valley, Victoria)
30ml Soda to top
So many recipes all have varying quantities so play around and see what you like.
As a rule of thumb it is 1 part soda, 2 part Limoncello and 3 part Prosecco. But as our Lemoncello is that bit stronger, I vary the ratio a bit.
Build the drink carefully in a spritz glass with ice and garnish with either lemon or orange slice
Lemoncello Sunrise
45 ml Mallee Spirit Lemoncello
120ml fresh squeezed orange juice
Splash of Grenadine
Pour Grenadine into a tall glass, add ice cubes then Lemoncello and orange juice. If you do this slowly you will get a nice layering effect
Garnish with an orange slice and a maraschino cherry
One of the most popular cocktails we get asked to make with Lemoncello is a “Mallee Nymph”
Mallee Nymph
Just a play on a “white lady”
45ml Mallee Spirit Myrtle Gin
45ml Mallee Spirit Lemoncello
30ml lemon juice
30ml simple syrup
1/2 an egg white - now if you are lucky enough to have your own chooks - you know that nothing (other than a Kitchen Aid Mixer) will allow you to select half and egg white.
That’s when you pretend you have friends and double the quantity - OR use a few drops of Wonderfoam (available on line from Only Bitters) or Aquafaba (available online from Aquafab). See my blog on cocktail foamers for more information!
Place all ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice
Shake like crazy Strain into a beaker, discard the ice and then return to the cocktail shaker and shake like crazy again
Strain into a sweet little glass and garnish with a few twists of lemon rind
I cant take credit for this one but its delicious
Lemoncello Icecream Float
1 scoop (approx. 60 g) vanilla or lemon ice cream
30 ml Limoncello liqueur
150 ml chilled Prosecco
Lemon slices, for garnish
Chill some wine glasses. This will keep your float colder and prevents melting. Portion a large scoop of vanilla or lemon ice cream into each glass. Try not to press it down so the prosecco bubbles have room to rise around it. Carefully drizzle measured Lemoncello over the ice cream letting it pool and soak slightly. This infuses every bite with a fragrant citrus kick.
Slowly pour prosecco into the glass until it is three quarters full letting the bubbles fizz and combine with the ice cream. The ice cream will float and froth just right.
Place a thin lemon slice on top of each float and offer a small spoon alongside for scooping. Serve immediately while everything is icy and sparkling.
